How to Create a Telegram Channel
Making the channel takes a minute. The choices inside it, public or private, signed posts or not, comments or none, decide how it can grow.
How to create a Telegram channel: open Telegram, start a new message, and choose New Channel. Give it a name, and optionally a description and photo. Then choose Public, which gives it a t.me link and makes it findable in Telegram search, or Private, which can only be joined through an invite link. Finally, add your first subscribers or skip and share the link.
That's the whole setup, and it works the same way on iPhone, Android and desktop. What takes more thought is what a channel is: a one-way broadcast. Only admins post. Subscribers read, react if you allow it, and comment only if you link a discussion group. Telegram has two formats that look alike from outside, groups and channels, and they grow differently. A group is a conversation where members talk. Private to admins: the subscriber list, and once the channel is large enough, a statistics page. Subscribers can't see each other at all, so a reader can't tell who else is there, only how many.
That makes the two public numbers carry most of a channel's first impression. A stranger landing on a new channel sees a name, a description, recent posts, a subscriber count and view counts, and decides from those whether to join. How to make a Telegram channel, step by step
Telegram's channels FAQ describes the same flow on each platform, starting from the new message button:
- iPhone: open Chats, tap the new message icon, and choose New Channel.
- Android: tap the pencil icon, and choose New Channel.
- Desktop: open the main menu and choose New Channel.
- Enter a channel name. Add a description and a photo now or later; both are what strangers see first.
- Choose the channel type: Public, with a permanent t.me link you pick, or Private, joined by invite link.
- Add subscribers from your contacts if you want to, or skip and share the link instead.
What to decide before you post
Choose the name and the public link carefully. The name is what search matches and what people see in their chat list; the t.me link is what you'll share everywhere. You can change both later, but a changed link breaks every place you already shared the old one.
How to create a private Telegram channel
Choose Private when you create it, or switch an existing channel to private in its settings. A private channel has no public username and doesn't appear in Telegram search. People join only through an invite link, which you share yourself.
Private channels suit paid content, internal announcements, or anything you don't want indexed. The trade-off is growth: nobody finds a private channel by searching, so every subscriber comes from a link you or your readers passed along. How to add admin to Telegram channel
Open the channel, tap its name to open the channel info, go to the edit or manage section, and choose Administrators, then Add Admin. Pick the person and set their rights: posting, editing others' posts, deleting posts, adding subscribers, managing stories or live streams, and adding new admins. Give each admin only the rights they need.
Two settings are worth knowing. Sign messages adds the posting admin's name to each post; Telegram's FAQ says the signature appears next to the view counter and doesn't link to the admin's profile. It's useful for a channel with several writers. And admins with full editing rights are the ones who can open the channel's statistics once it qualifies.
How to enable comments on Telegram channel
Channels don't have comments on their own. You add them by linking a discussion group. In the channel's settings, open Discussion and either create a new group or link an existing one. From then on, Telegram's FAQ says, subscribers see a comment button under each post, and comments are held in the linked group, where each post appears as a thread.
That group is a separate space with its own members and rules. People who comment join the conversation there, which can make it a second community around the channel. - Make posts people want to forward. Forwarded posts carry the channel's name and a way back to it.

Why nobody finds a new channel
Telegram search matches channel names and descriptions, and it tends to show channels people already know about. A new public channel is findable in principle, but few people search for something they haven't heard of. What subscribers see, and what only admins see
Subscribers see the channel's posts, the subscriber count, the view counter on each post, reactions if enabled, and comments if a discussion group is linked. They don't see each other, and they don't see who viewed a post.
Admins see all of that plus the subscriber list and, once the channel has at least 50 subscribers, Telegram's statistics page. Telegram lowered that threshold from the 1,000 subscribers it required when statistics launched.
