Two different counts, and the link decides which one
A subreddit has members. A profile has followers. How to subscribe to a subreddit?
Hit Join on the community page. That is the entire action, and it is instantly reversible with Leave. Subscribing puts that sub's posts into your home feed and counts you in the sidebar figure; it does not give you posting rights in a restricted community, which is a separate permission the moderators hand out.
Can you see who is subscribed to a subreddit?
No. Reddit keeps no public roster of members, and moderators cannot pull one either. They see traffic statistics, the modqueue and who has been approved to post, but never a list of who joined. This is why an order here needs only the community link and why nobody browsing your sub can tell one member from another.
How to only see subscribed subreddits?
Switch your feed from Popular or All to Home. Home is built from the subs you joined and nothing else, while Popular pulls from the whole site.
