How to Find Drafts on TikTok (and Why They Disappear)
Drafts sit on your profile, but they belong to the phone. That one fact explains every lost draft, and the fix is a single tap you can make today.
How to find drafts on TikTok: tap Profile at the bottom of the app and open the Drafts folder in your videos tab. TikTok's Help Center says drafts are saved to the videos tab on your profile and are visible only to you. If the folder isn't there, you have no drafts saved on this phone.
That last part is the catch. TikTok says drafts may be removed if the app is uninstalled and reinstalled, or if the account is moved to a different device, and they can't be transferred between accounts. A draft lives on the phone it was made on, so the safe habit is saving important drafts to your camera roll, which TikTok now allows without posting.
A TikTok draft is an edited video you chose not to post yet: the clips, sound, text, stickers and effects saved together so you can come back to them. You make one by tapping Drafts instead of Post on the final screen, and TikTok's Help Center, as of October 2026, says drafts go to the videos tab on your profile and are only available to others when you post them.
What the Help Center also says, in a short list most people never read, is when drafts can disappear: when TikTok has been uninstalled and reinstalled on a device, and when the account has been moved or switched to a different device. It adds that drafts can't be shared or transferred between accounts. Put together, that means a draft is stored with the app on one phone, not with your account in the cloud.
That's the reason drafts vanish after a phone upgrade, a factory reset or a reinstall to fix a bug, and why no support ticket brings them back. It's also why the fix is preventive. Since TikTok added Save to device for drafts, you can keep a copy of any draft in your gallery without publishing it, and that copy survives anything that happens to the app.
When a draft does go out, its first hour is when the view counter is lowest. That's the number TikTok views adds to, from the video's public link; it doesn't change how TikTok's For You feed treats the video.
Where are drafts on TikTok?
On your own profile, in a folder only you can see:
- Open the TikTok app and tap Profile at the bottom.
- In the videos tab of your profile, look for the Drafts folder.
- Tap it to open your drafts, then tap one to keep editing or to post it.
If there's no Drafts folder
The folder only appears when at least one draft is saved on the device you're using. Logged in on a new phone, a tablet or a browser, you won't see drafts made elsewhere, because they're stored on the original device. Check that you're on the right account too: drafts belong to the account they were made in and can't move between accounts, which matters if you run more than one TikTok account on the same phone.
Can people see your drafts on TikTok?
No. TikTok's Help Center says your drafts are visible only to you on your profile, and that they're only available to others when you post them. Followers and visitors never see the Drafts folder, its count or anything inside it.
There are two ways a draft can reach other people by accident, and both happen at the moment of posting. The first is posting with the wrong audience: TikTok's Help Center notes that a new post keeps your previous post's privacy setting, so if your last video went to Everyone, the draft you post next will too unless you change it. The second is posting the wrong draft from a full folder. Opening the draft and watching it through before tapping Post handles both.
How do you save a TikTok draft to your camera roll?
You no longer need to post a draft to save it. TikTok's Help Center on saving videos gives these steps:
- Tap Profile at the bottom of the app, then tap Drafts.
- Tap the draft you want to keep.
- Tap the More button at the top.
- Select Save to device. The video goes to your phone's gallery.
Watermark and permissions
A draft saved this way has no TikTok watermark by default; you can turn the watermark on in your draft settings before saving. If the video doesn't appear in your gallery, check your phone's download folder or the TikTok album, and on iPhone make sure TikTok has permission to access Photos in your phone's settings.
Do TikTok drafts transfer to a new phone?
No. TikTok's Help Center lists moving or switching an account to a different device as one of the reasons drafts may be removed. Logging in on the new phone brings your account, your posts and your followers, but not the drafts that lived on the old one.
Before you switch phones, go through your drafts on the old device and do one of two things with each one you care about:
- Save it to your device, then move the file to the new phone the way you move your photos. You'll have the finished video, though not its editable layers.
- Post it with the audience set to Only you. A private post lives in your account, so it's there on any phone, and you can make it public later.
Which option keeps more
Neither keeps the draft as an editable project. Saving to the device keeps the video file outside TikTok; posting privately keeps it inside TikTok with its sound attached. For a video built around a trending sound, the private post is usually the better backup.
Why did my TikTok drafts disappear?
Almost always because of something that happened to the app on that phone. The Help Center names two causes directly, and both have common everyday versions:
- The app was uninstalled and reinstalled, including reinstalls done to fix a bug or free storage.
- The account moved to a different device: a new phone, a restored backup, or logging in on another device as your main one.
- A factory reset or a phone restored from backup has the same effect as a new device.
- On Android, clearing the app's data, not just its cache, wipes what the app stored locally.
Clearing the cache is safe
TikTok's own Clear cache button frees storage without touching drafts. The difference between that button and the destructive options is laid out in how to clear cache on TikTok.
Can lost drafts be recovered?
TikTok's Help Center describes a Recently deleted folder that holds deleted posts for 30 days, but that's for published posts, not drafts. It documents no way to restore drafts lost to a reinstall or device change, so if there's no copy in your gallery, the draft is gone.
How do you delete drafts on TikTok?
From the same Drafts folder on your profile: open it and remove the drafts you no longer need. TikTok's Help Center doesn't spell out the buttons, and they've moved between app versions. Deleting drafts frees space on your phone, since they're stored there.
Before deleting, it's worth remembering that drafts don't go to Recently deleted. That folder, in Settings and privacy under Activity center, holds published posts you deleted for 30 days and lets you restore them with their comments and likes, according to TikTok's Help Center. A deleted draft has no such safety net.
If a draft won't post when you finally try, the issue is the upload, not the draft. Why won't my TikTok post separates upload failures from rejections.
What happens when you finally post a draft?
It becomes a normal video and goes through the same process as any other post, including review before it's shown in the For You feed. If it sits at zero for a while, why does my TikTok have 0 views explains the review states and why deleting and reposting makes it worse. How long a draft sat in the folder doesn't affect how it's treated.
The first viewers of a newly posted video see its counter before anything else. Some creators add buy TikTok views to a fresh post for that reason; it needs the video's public URL and a quantity from 100 up, paid from a balance funded with PayPal or crypto, never a login. It changes the public view count, not TikTok's distribution or the watch time it measures. Every other guide and service for the network is on the TikTok page.
