How to Cancel a Tidal Subscription

The only hard part is remembering who is actually charging you, and it is often not Tidal.

Updated October 2026

Cancel where the money leaves. If you subscribed on tidal.com, sign in there, open your account settings and choose to cancel the subscription.

If you subscribed through the iPhone app, Tidal cannot cancel it. The billing belongs to Apple, so it is in Settings, your name, Subscriptions. Through Android, it is in the Play Store under Payments and subscriptions.

And if it arrived with a phone plan or a hardware bundle, it is the carrier or the retailer who stops it.

Canceling ends the renewal, not the access. You keep the service until the paid period runs out, and your downloads stop working at that point.

The part most guides skip

The reason this question gets asked so often, for Tidal more than for its competitors, is the number of routes people arrived through.

Tidal has been bundled with phone plans, sold through hardware promotions, included in artist-led campaigns, and offered at tiered prices that have been restructured more than once. A single household can contain three subscriptions billed three different ways.

That creates a specific failure: you cancel in the app, see a confirmation, and get charged again the following month. The confirmation was real — you canceled the thing the app could cancel, which was not the thing being billed.

The reliable way to find out who is charging you is to look at the charge itself. A card statement line naming Apple or Google tells you immediately that Tidal's own settings page is the wrong place. A line naming Tidal, or Block, or Aspiro, means the direct route is correct.

Do that before you start clicking. It takes a minute and it is the difference between canceling once and canceling three times.

Canceling a subscription bought directly

Sign in at tidal.com in a browser rather than in the app. The account area is reached from your profile at the top right, and the subscription controls live under account or membership settings.

There will be a cancel or manage option against the current plan. Tidal typically offers a downgrade or a pause before accepting the cancellation, which is normal retention and can be declined.

After confirming, the account page should show an end date rather than a next billing date. That is the state you want to see before you close the tab.

The desktop and mobile apps route you to this same web page for billing changes. If the app seems to lack the option, it is not hiding it — it genuinely does not handle billing.

When Apple or Google is the one charging you

On an iPhone or iPad: Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose Tidal, then Cancel Subscription.

On Android: open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, choose Payments and subscriptions, then Subscriptions, select Tidal and cancel.

Nothing you do inside the Tidal app affects either of these. The app can show you that a subscription exists; it cannot stop a payment that another company is collecting.

The tell at signup is whether you were asked for card details or merely confirmed with a fingerprint or face scan. A biometric confirmation means the platform handled it.

Bundled plans, which cancel somewhere else entirely

Tidal has shipped as part of mobile plans and device promotions in several markets, and those cannot be canceled from either Tidal or the app stores.

The subscription belongs to the bundle. Removing it means contacting the carrier or retailer, and in many cases it cannot be removed at all without changing the underlying plan — it is included rather than added.

If a promotional period is ending and you simply do not want it to convert, the carrier's account portal usually has an add-on or entertainment section where it can be switched off before the free period lapses.

Trying to cancel a bundled subscription inside Tidal produces no option and no explanation, which is why people conclude the cancel button is missing.

What you lose and what you keep

At the end of the paid period, offline downloads stop playing. They are licensed files and the license expires with the subscription; the storage they occupy remains until you clear it.

Your playlists and favorites are retained on the account. Signing back in later restores them, and the account persists in a free or limited state rather than being deleted.

Anything you bought outright — Tidal sold downloads for part of its history — is unaffected, because a purchase is not a license that renews.

If you are leaving for another service, export or transfer playlists while the subscription is live. Transfer tools read your library through the service, and after access ends there is nothing for them to read.

Canceling before a trial converts

Trials convert automatically, so the action is the same and the timing is what matters.

Cancel at least twenty-four hours before the stated end date. Billing is queued ahead of the date on several of these platforms, and a cancellation on the final day can land after the charge has been authorized.

In most cases canceling does not cut the trial short; you keep the remaining days and are simply not billed. That makes waiting pointless.

If you were charged anyway, the refund request goes to whoever took the money — Apple's Report a Problem, Google Play's refund form, or Tidal's support, depending on the route.

Canceling as a listener does not affect you as an artist

The two relationships are entirely separate, and conflating them is common.

If your music is on Tidal, it is there because a distributor placed it. Ending your personal listening subscription does nothing to the catalog entry, the streams or the payouts, and you can stop paying while continuing to be played.

What you give up is the consumer view of your own release: how it appears in search, whether the artwork renders correctly, whether a promised playlist placement actually happened.

For an independent artist that visibility is usually worth more than the fee, which is the standard argument for keeping exactly one subscription on the account you release under and canceling the rest.

Questions people ask about leaving Tidal

Why is there no cancel button in the Tidal app?

Because the app does not handle billing. Cancel on tidal.com if you subscribed directly, or in Apple or Google settings if you subscribed through a phone.

Do I lose access immediately when I cancel?

No. You keep the service until the end of the period you already paid for, and downloads stop playing at that point.

What happens to my playlists?

They stay on the account and come back if you resubscribe. If you are moving to another service, transfer them before access ends.

How do I cancel a Tidal subscription that came with my phone plan?

Through the carrier, not through Tidal. Bundled subscriptions are managed in the carrier's account portal, and some cannot be removed without changing the plan.

I canceled and was charged again. Why?

You almost certainly canceled in one place while being billed from another. Check the card statement to see whether the charge names Tidal, Apple or Google.

Does canceling delete my account?

No. The account persists with your library and favorites intact; only the paid tier ends.
