How to Remove a Follower on Twitch
There is no remove button. The follow disappears as a side effect of a block, and it stays gone after you unblock.
How to remove followers on Twitch has a one-word answer: block. Twitch does not offer a button that simply removes someone from your follower list, the way some other networks do. What it offers is blocking, and blocking an account removes it from your followers and stops it from following you again while the block is in place.
The side effect runs one way. If you unblock the account later, the follow does not come back. The person would have to find your channel and follow again on their own. So blocking is a real removal, not a temporary hide, and if you block a large number of accounts at once, the drop in your follower count is permanent unless those people choose to return.
The reason this works the way it does is that Twitch has never treated removing a follower as its own action. There is no quiet option that detaches a follower while leaving everything else as it was. There is only the block, which is a safety tool, and the unfollow is one of several things it does.

The one-way nature is the part that surprises people. A streamer who blocks a wave of hostile or automated accounts during a bad stream sees the follower count drop immediately. Unblocking them afterwards, to tidy up the block list, restores nothing. The follows were deleted, not suspended.
Can you remove followers on Twitch without blocking?
No. There is no native way to remove a follower while leaving them unblocked. It is a long-standing request from streamers, and it remains a request.
What you can do is block and then unblock. Because unblocking does not restore the follow, blocking someone and immediately unblocking them removes the follower and leaves them able to follow again, whisper you and watch as before. It is a workaround rather than a feature, and the person may notice that they are no longer following. But if the goal is only to remove a follower without keeping a permanent block on record, that is the path people use.
How to remove someone from following you on Twitch
The block is available in more than one place.
From chat
Click the person's username in chat to open their viewer card. Open the menu on the card, usually the three dots, and choose block. This is the fastest route during a stream, and it is the one moderators and streamers use when something goes wrong live.
From their channel
Go to the account's channel page, open the menu next to the follow button, and choose block. Useful when the person is not in your chat at the moment and you know their name.
Undoing a block
Your blocked accounts are listed in your account settings, under security and privacy. You can unblock from there. Remember that unblocking lets the person follow again; it does not put back a follow that the block removed.
What else does blocking do on Twitch?
More than people expect, which matters if you are using it only to tidy your follower list.

How to remove a lot of followers at once
Twitch does not provide a bulk removal or bulk block tool. The situation where people need one is usually a follow-bot attack, where hundreds of automated accounts follow a channel in a short window, sometimes as part of harassment.
Third-party moderation tools that you authorize against your own account can block lists of accounts in bulk. They use the same block action you would, with the same effects, including the permanent removal of each follow. Authorize only tools you trust, since you are giving them permission to act on your channel, and check which permissions they ask for.
Follow-bot waves are also something Twitch acts on itself. When accounts are closed or suspended, their follows can disappear from your count without you doing anything, which is one reason a follower figure sometimes drops overnight.
Should you remove followers at all?
For abuse and harassment, yes, and without hesitation. The block exists for that, and it removes the follow as part of doing its job.
For followers who are just inactive, there is little reason to. A follower who never watches costs you nothing. There is one case where the total does matter: early on, when a channel is working toward the follower threshold in the Twitch Affiliate requirements. A bulk block during that stretch can set the count back, and since unblocking restores nothing, it is worth being deliberate about who you block while you are close to that line.
What the follower count is doing for you
The total is public on your channel, while the list of names is visible only to you, as how to see followers on Twitch explains. So the count is the part a visitor reads when they arrive, before they watch anything, and it tells them whether others have found the channel worth following.
That is the reason some streamers add Twitch followers after a clean-up or at launch: to change what a visitor reads on the channel page. It changes the total and nothing about concurrent viewers, which is the figure that decides where you appear in the directory.
