The number next to a Reddit post looks like an upvote count. It isn't. It's a net score, deliberately blurred, and the closest thing to the real picture is a percentage most people never look at.

How to see your upvotes on Reddit

For posts you've made, as of September 2026:

• Open the post in the Reddit app or on the website.
• Look at the score beside the voting arrows. That's the net, fuzzed figure everyone sees.
• Tap or click See more insights under your post. Reddit's post insights show upvotes, views, comments, shares and more, with views over the first hours after posting.
• Check the upvote ratio, shown as a percentage upvoted, for the balance of up and down votes.

How to see the posts you've upvoted

That's a different list: posts you voted for, not votes you received. Open your profile and go to the Upvoted tab. By default only you can see it. Old Reddit's preferences have a setting to make your votes public; if it's switched on, others can see that tab, so check it if privacy matters to you.

Can you see who upvoted you on Reddit?

No. Reddit doesn't show the author of a post or comment, or anyone else, which accounts upvoted or downvoted it. Moderators can see post insights for posts in their communities, but those are counts too, not names. Only Reddit's own staff have access to vote records, which they use to investigate manipulation.

Not by default. Your Upvoted and Downvoted tabs are visible only to you unless you've turned on the option to make your votes public. People can see your posts and comments, and anything they reveal about your interests, but not your votes.

What does upvote mean on Reddit?

An upvote is a vote that a post or comment contributes to the conversation. Reddit's own etiquette guidance has always framed voting that way, rather than as agreement, though in practice many people vote on whether they agree. Upvotes raise a post's score, which helps it rank higher in its community's Hot and Top sorts and can carry it to the feeds of people who don't follow that community. Downvotes do the opposite.

Why does the upvote count keep changing?

Two reasons. First, real votes keep arriving, and each one moves the net score by one in either direction. Second, fuzzing: the displayed numbers include a small amount of noise, so the same post can show slightly different scores on successive loads. The overall level is accurate; the exact digit at any moment isn't meant to be.

Reddit also removes votes it identifies as manipulation, from bots or from coordinated groups, which can make a score fall after the fact. A sudden drop on a post that was climbing is often this correction rather than a wave of downvotes.

What is a good upvote ratio on Reddit?

There's no official benchmark. Most posts that do well in a community sit at a high ratio, and a ratio in the middle means the post split its audience. Compare within the same community, because some subreddits vote far more harshly than others.

How do upvotes affect where a post ranks?

Reddit doesn't publish its current ranking formula, but the sorts themselves show how votes are used. New orders posts by time alone, so votes don't matter there. Top orders them by score within a time window you choose. Hot combines score with how recent the post is, so an early burst of votes counts for more than the same votes a day later. For comments, the default Best sort favors comments with a high share of upvotes for the number of votes they've had, so a newer comment with a few mostly positive votes can sit above an older one with a bigger score. Your home feed also mixes in recommendations using signals Reddit doesn't disclose.

Can you see downvotes on Reddit?

Not directly. The score nets them out, and the upvote ratio is the only way to infer them. A post with a score of 100 and a ratio of 75% had roughly 150 upvotes and 50 downvotes, before fuzzing. On comments, where no ratio is shown, there's no way to tell.

Where outside votes fit, and what Reddit says about them

A post's first minutes decide much of what follows. A new post sitting at a score of one reads as ignored to someone scrolling a community's New queue, while the same post with a modest early score gets a second look. That early score is the number Reddit upvotes change.

Since this site offers them, the honest version belongs here in full. Reddit's content policy asks users not to cheat or engage in content manipulation, and it lists vote manipulation by name, together with subscriber fraud.
