How to See Twitch Viewers: Live, Average and Unique
Three numbers for the same stream, in three places, and they never agree. Each one answers a different question about the same audience.
How to see Twitch viewers depends on which viewers you mean, because Twitch keeps three different counts. The live viewer count is the number under the player while a stream is on, visible to everyone: how many people are watching right now. Average viewers and max viewers appear in your stream summary and in Channel Analytics after the stream: the typical and the peak concurrent audience. Unique viewers, also in Channel Analytics, counts how many different people watched at any point, each counted once.
They will never match, and that is expected. A stream where people drift in and out all evening can show a live count that never rises above a modest number and a unique viewer count several times larger, because many different people each watched for part of the time. The same audience, measured three ways. Knowing which number answers your question saves a lot of confusion.
Most platforms give a live stream one audience number, or two at most. Twitch gives three, in three different places, and they are built from the same viewers counted differently.
The live count is a snapshot: concurrent viewers at this moment. Average viewers is that snapshot averaged over the whole broadcast, weighted by time, so a brief spike barely moves it. Unique viewers is a different kind of count altogether. It asks how many distinct viewers were present at any point during the stream or the date range, and it counts each of them once, however many times they left and returned.
The gap between them is information. Picture two streams, each averaging the same concurrent audience. In the first, the same group watched from start to finish; the unique count sits close to the average. In the second, viewers arrived, watched for ten minutes and moved on, replaced by others doing the same; the unique count is many times the average. Those streams look identical from the live count and are completely different channels. The first has a loyal core. The second is being found but not held.
How to see viewers on Twitch while you are live
The live viewer count sits under the video player on your channel and on the stream's card in directories, where everyone can see it. In your own stream manager it appears among your session stats alongside the time live and new followers.
Twitch counts people watching the live video whether or not they are signed in. Logged-out viewers, viewers in private browsing and people with no Twitch account at all are included. Automated viewers are not supposed to be, and Twitch has tightened how it filters them, which lowered live counts across the platform when the stricter detection came in. If you compare your numbers with the same period a year earlier, keep that in mind.
Can you see who is watching your Twitch stream?
Only partly. The chat's user list, reached from the community or users button in chat, shows accounts connected to your chat, which includes some signed-in viewers who never type. It does not show logged-out viewers, and it will not match the live count. Twitch does not provide a list of every person watching. The live count is a number, not a roster.
What does average viewers mean on Twitch?
Average viewers is the mean number of concurrent viewers across the broadcast, weighted by time. If you streamed for four hours and had a large audience for ten minutes during a raid, that spike raises the average only a little, because it lasted a short share of the stream.
This is the number Twitch uses in its programs. The Twitch Affiliate requirements include an average viewer threshold over a recent window, measured this way, which is why one big stream rarely rescues a month of small ones. What is max viewers?
The peak concurrent audience during the stream or the period. It is the most flattering of the numbers and the least useful for planning, because it records a moment. Read it alongside average viewers: a high peak with a low average usually means a raid or a shoutout brought people in and most of them left.
What are unique viewers on Twitch?
Unique viewers is the number of distinct viewers who watched your live stream at any point during the selected period, each counted once. Someone who watched for twenty minutes, left, and came back later counts once. Because logged-out viewers count too, it cannot rely on accounts alone, so treat it as a close estimate of people rather than an exact roll call: the same person switching from a phone to a computer may be counted twice.
You will find it in Channel Analytics. It is not shown to the public, and it is the least understood of the three because it has no live equivalent: there is no moment during a stream when you can see the unique count ticking up.
What does unique viewers mean compared with average viewers?
Unique viewers tells you how many people you reached; average viewers tells you how many you held at a time. The ratio between them describes your audience's behavior. Close together means a stable group that stays. Far apart means a stream that many people sample and few stay on. Neither ratio is right or wrong, but they call for different responses: the first channel needs more new arrivals, the second needs a reason for arrivals to stay.
How to check viewers on Twitch after a stream
Open the Creator Dashboard. The stream summary for each broadcast shows average viewers, max viewers, the time live and what happened with followers and chat during that session. Channel Analytics shows the same figures for any date range you choose, with unique viewers alongside, and lets you compare periods.
For another channel, you can only see the live count while they are streaming. Their averages and unique viewers are private to them. Third-party statistics sites estimate averages by sampling the public live count over time; they do not have access to anyone's unique viewer figure.
Which Twitch viewer number actually matters?

For eligibility, average viewers, because that is what the Affiliate and Partner programs measure. For understanding your audience, unique viewers against average viewers, because that ratio shows whether people stay.
The live count is also the first thing a visitor sees on a stream's card and under the player, which is why streamers look at Twitch viewers for a launch or a special broadcast. That moves the concurrent figure a visitor reads; it does not add to your followers or your chat, and Twitch's own filtering of automated viewers decides what it counts. How do I see how many viewers I have on Twitch?

Does Twitch count logged-out viewers?
Yes. Twitch counts people watching the live video whether or not they are signed in or have an account.

Why did my viewer count drop suddenly?
