How to Block Someone on TikTok (and Unblock Later)

A block on TikTok cuts the connection both ways and quietly. Here's where the button is in each part of the app, and how to undo it.

Updated October 2026

How to block on TikTok: open the person's profile, tap the share arrow or three-dot icon at the top right, choose Block and confirm. You can also block from a comment by pressing and holding it, or from a chat through its menu. The person isn't notified, and if either of you followed the other, that follow is removed.

Unblocking is just as quiet and lives in one place: Settings and privacy, then Privacy, then Blocked accounts. Unblocking restores access but not the follow, so someone you unblock has to follow you again on their own. If they were one of your followers, the block takes one off your count, and that's the number TikTok followers add to.

The part most guides skip

Most guides treat a block as a one-person action. The tool TikTok built for the problem people actually have is the bulk one.

In May 2021, TikTok added a way to manage comments and commenters in batches, reported at the time by TechCrunch. Press and hold a comment on your video, or tap the pencil icon at the top of the comment panel, and you can select up to 100 comments or accounts at once, then delete them, report them, or block the accounts behind them.

That's the answer to a pile-on. When a video draws a wave of hostile comments from accounts you've never seen, opening a hundred profiles one by one isn't realistic. Selecting the comments and blocking their authors in one pass is, and it removes them from your comments and from your profile in the same move.

How do you block someone on TikTok, step by step?

There are three places to do it, and they all lead to the same block.

From their profile

Open the person's profile, tap the share arrow or the three-dot icon at the top right, then tap Block and confirm. This is the method to use when you know who you want to block and can find their account.

From a comment

Press and hold the comment, and choose the option to manage or block. This is also where the bulk tool starts: from there you can select several comments and block their authors together.

From a direct message

Open the chat, tap the menu at the top, and choose Block. Use this when someone is messaging you and you'd rather not open their profile at all.

What happens when you block someone on TikTok?

The two accounts stop existing for each other. In practice:

  • Follows are removed in both directions. If they followed you, they're gone from your followers; if you followed them, they're gone from your following list.
  • They can't see your profile or your videos, and your videos stop appearing in their feeds.
  • They can't follow you, message you, comment on your videos or mention you in a way that reaches you.
  • Your old chat history isn't wiped, but no new messages can be sent between you. A block is only one reason a Message button goes missing; why you can't message someone on TikTok covers the age rule and the DM settings.

Block, restrict or remove?

A block is the strongest tool and not always the right one. If the problem is comments, TikTok's comment settings let you filter comments containing words you choose without cutting anyone off. If the problem is one follower you'd rather not have, a block followed by an unblock drops the follow and leaves nothing else in place, a trick covered in how to hide followers on TikTok.

Does TikTok notify someone when you block them?

No. There's no notification, no message and no entry in their inbox. What they may notice is the result: your profile no longer opens for them, your videos stop appearing, and if they look at their following list you're no longer on it.

Someone who suspects a block can usually confirm it by searching for your account from a different account. That's true on most platforms, and there's nothing you can change in TikTok's settings to prevent it. If that matters, a private account plus a block is the most private combination available.

Can a blocked person see your comments?

In general, no. After a block, your content is hidden from them, and that includes the comments you leave on other people's videos. They can still see a public video you commented on, but your account and what you post are hidden from their side.

The reverse needs an extra step. Comments they left on your videos before the block don't always vanish on their own, so if you want a thread cleaned up, delete those comments yourself. The bulk tool makes that one action instead of many: select their comments, delete them, and block the account in the same pass.

How do you block multiple accounts at once?

From the comments on your own video. Press and hold a comment, or tap the pencil icon at the top left of the comment panel, and the panel switches to a selection mode. Tick up to 100 comments, then choose to block the accounts that wrote them. You can delete or report the same selection instead.

There's no bulk option from a list of followers, and no import of someone else's block list. Bulk blocking is built for comment sections, which is where most mass blocking is needed.

How do you see your blocked list on TikTok?

As of October 2026, TikTok's support pages put it here:

1. Tap Profile at the bottom of the app.

2. Tap the Menu icon at the top right, then Settings and privacy.

3. Tap Privacy, then scroll to Blocked accounts.

Every account you've blocked is listed there. To unblock someone, tap Unblock next to their name. You can also unblock from their profile, which now shows an Unblock button in place of Follow.

What happens when you unblock someone on TikTok?

Access comes back, the relationship doesn't. They can find your profile, watch your public videos and message you again under your normal message settings. The follows that the block removed stay removed, so neither of you is following the other until someone taps Follow.

They aren't told about the unblock either. Most people only find out when your profile opens for them again.

That's why blocking costs a number on your profile. A follower you blocked doesn't return when you unblock, and a run of blocks after a hostile video shows up as a dip in your follower count. That dip is the count TikTok followers adds to, and it's the only part of this that buying changes: it doesn't bring anyone back or affect how TikTok shows your videos. Every TikTok service is on the TikTok page, and if you're seeing follows fail rather than drop, why you can't follow people on TikTok covers the limits behind that.
