How to Cancel Sub on Twitch
Canceling is a decision about the next charge, not about this month, and the streamer only sees it at the renewal date.
Open your subscriptions page on Twitch, find the channel, and choose to cancel the subscription. It is confirmed immediately and the benefits continue until the end of the period you already paid for.
If you subscribed through a mobile app store, cancel it in that store instead; Twitch cannot stop a subscription billed elsewhere.
Prime subscriptions do not renew on their own, so there is usually nothing to cancel.
The timing is what people get wrong in both directions, and it matters to the streamer as well as to the viewer.
For the viewer: canceling keeps everything working. Emotes, the badge, ad-free viewing on that channel and subscriber-only chat continue until the paid period ends. There is no partial refund and no reason to cancel early expecting one.
For the streamer: a cancellation is not visible as an event. The subscriber count does not drop when someone cancels; it drops when the subscription lapses at the renewal date. That is why a channel can see several subscribers disappear on the same day for decisions made weeks apart, and why month-to-month churn is read at the renewal cliff rather than continuously.
The second thing worth separating is where the subscription was bought. Twitch sells subscriptions on the web, through its own apps, and through mobile app stores. A subscription bought in a mobile store is billed by that store, and Twitch's own cancel control cannot touch it. That mismatch is the cause of almost every I canceled and was charged again report.
And the Prime subscription is a different object again: it is granted monthly, it expires rather than renewing, and forgetting to use it is the usual way a channel loses it.
Canceling on the web
Open your subscriptions page from the account menu. It lists every active subscription with its renewal date.
Choose the channel and cancel. A confirmation appears, and the entry changes to show the end date.
Until that date, nothing changes for you or for the channel.
The same page shows gifted subscriptions, which end on their date and were never set to renew.
Subscriptions bought in a mobile app
If you subscribed inside the iOS or Android app, the billing belongs to that app store.
Cancel it in the store's subscriptions area. Twitch's page may show the subscription and will not be able to stop it.
The price in app stores is often higher, which is a separate reason to subscribe on the web.
If you cannot find it in either place, check which account you are signed into; multiple Twitch accounts are a common source of confusion.
Prime subscriptions
A Prime subscription is included with Amazon Prime and is granted once a month.
It does not renew automatically. Each month you re-apply it, and an unused one expires.
That is why a channel loses Prime subscribers in waves: people forget rather than decide.
Cancelling is therefore rarely necessary; simply not reapplying has the same effect.
What you keep and what you lose
Until the end date: emotes, the badge, ad-free viewing on that channel, and access to subscriber-only chat and VODs.
After it: all of those, immediately.
Emotes you used in past messages still render for people who have access to them, which is why old chat logs look inconsistent.
Sub months accumulated for loyalty badges are kept as a record and resume if you subscribe again later, rather than resetting to zero.
Refunds and double charges
Twitch's refund policy is narrow and handled through support, with purchases through app stores handled by the store.
A charge after canceling almost always means the subscription lives in a store, or the cancellation did not complete.
Gifted subscriptions cannot be canceled by the recipient, because there is no recurring payment attached.
And a failed payment lapses the subscription silently rather than retrying forever, which some viewers only notice when their badge disappears.
Questions people ask about canceling a subscription
Does canceling a Twitch sub stop it immediately?
No. The subscription runs to the end of the paid period, and the benefits continue until then.
Does the streamer know when I cancel?
Not at that moment. The count falls when the subscription lapses at the renewal date rather than when you cancel.
Why was I charged after canceling?
Usually because the subscription was bought in a mobile app store and has to be canceled there instead of on Twitch.
Do I need to cancel a Prime subscription?
No. Prime subscriptions do not renew. They expire monthly unless you reapply them.
Do I lose my sub months if I cancel?
The accumulated months are kept and continue from where they left off if you subscribe to the same channel again.
Can I get a refund for the rest of the month?
Generally no. Twitch's refund policy is narrow, and app store purchases are handled by the store.
