How to Use Prime Sub on Twitch

It is free, it is monthly, and it is the only subscription on the platform that disappears because somebody forgot rather than decided.

Updated October 2026

Link your Amazon account with Prime to your Twitch account, then open any channel, press subscribe, and choose the Prime option. It costs nothing and lasts one month.

You get one at a time. Using it on a channel means you cannot use another until the next monthly grant.

It does not renew. When the month ends the subscription stops, and you have to apply the new one deliberately.

The part most guides skip

The expiry is the mechanic that matters, and it explains a pattern streamers notice without understanding.

A paid subscription renews until somebody cancels. A Prime subscription does the opposite: it ends unless somebody renews it by hand. Twitch sends a reminder and many people ignore it, so a channel loses Prime subscribers in a monthly wave of inattention rather than through a decision.

For viewers, the practical consequence is to treat it as a recurring task. The subscription page shows when the current one ends, and reapplying takes two clicks on whichever channel you want to support this month.

For streamers, it means Prime subscribers are worth reminding, politely and once a month, around the date they lapse. That is why so many channels mention it at the start of a stream rather than constantly.

There is one more wrinkle that costs people money. Subscribing inside the mobile apps does not always offer the Prime option, and tapping through can produce a paid subscription instead of the free one. The web interface always shows it when the accounts are linked, which is the safest place to do it.

Linking the accounts

Twitch and Amazon have to be connected on the connections page of your Twitch settings.

The Amazon account needs an active Prime membership. A trial counts while it lasts.

If the Prime option does not appear, the link is the first thing to check, followed by whether the membership is active.

One Amazon account links to one Twitch account at a time.

Using it

On any channel, press subscribe and choose the Prime option rather than a paid tier.

It applies immediately and lasts one month from that moment.

You can only hold one at a time. Moving it to another channel means waiting for the current one to end.

The benefits are those of a tier one subscription: emotes, badge, ad-free viewing on that channel and subscriber-only access.

When it ends

Twitch notifies you that the subscription is ending and that a new one is available.

Nothing happens automatically. The channel loses the subscriber unless you reapply.

Reapplying to the same channel keeps the streak of sub months, which is what badges are based on.

An unused monthly grant does not accumulate. Skipping a month does not give you two the next one.

When Prime does not appear at checkout

The accounts are not linked, or the Amazon account has no active Prime membership.

You already have an active Prime subscription on another channel.

You are in the mobile app, where the Prime route is sometimes absent and a paid subscription is offered instead.

Or the channel is not eligible to receive subscriptions at all, which is the case for channels below affiliate status.

What streamers get from it

The streamer is paid for a Prime subscription in the same way as for a tier one, which is why they ask for it.

It costs the viewer nothing beyond the Prime membership they already pay Amazon for.

For a small channel it is the lowest-friction support available, which is why so many ask for it specifically.

And because it lapses monthly, a channel's Prime base is a measure of attention rather than of commitment.

Questions people ask about Prime subscriptions

Is a Twitch Prime sub free?

Yes, for anyone with an active Amazon Prime membership and the accounts linked. It costs nothing beyond the Prime membership itself.

Does a Prime sub renew automatically?

No. It lasts one month and then stops. You have to apply the new monthly one yourself.

How many Prime subs can I have at once?

One. Using it on a channel means you cannot support another until the current one ends.

Why is the Prime option missing?

The accounts are not linked, the membership is inactive, you already have one active, or you are in an app that does not offer it.

Does the streamer get paid for it?

Yes, on the same basis as a tier one subscription, which is why channels ask for it specifically.

Do my sub months continue if I reapply?

Yes, as long as it is the same channel. The streak and the badge continue from where they left off.
