Facebook page likes vs followers: which one matters?

For reach, followers. A follow is the relationship Facebook uses to decide whose feed a Page's posts can appear in. A like without a follow doesn't put your posts in anyone's feed. Likes still have a job, but it's presentation. A visitor who sees a like count on an older Page reads it as a sign the Page has been around and has had support. It doesn't tell Facebook anything its distribution uses.

Why is my follower count higher than my likes?

Because people can follow without liking, and on the current Page layout the main button is Follow. Newer followers often never press like at all. On Pages created since the redesign, followers are usually the only number that grows.

Why is my like count higher than my followers?

Because people unfollowed without unliking. An older Page can carry years of likes from people who later hid its posts by unfollowing. The like stays; the follow is gone.

How to follow a Facebook page

Open the Page and tap Follow near the top. On Pages that still show a Like button, liking also follows by default. After you follow, the button changes, and its menu lets you control the relationship:

• Choose how often you see the Page's posts, for example by marking it as a favorite so its posts appear higher.
• Turn notifications for the Page on or off.
• Unfollow, which removes its posts from your feed. If you also liked the Page, the like remains unless you remove it separately.

How to see pages you follow on Facebook

Your profile keeps the list, though Facebook moves it between app versions. On desktop, open your profile, go to the Friends section, and choose Following; switch to Pages if the list is mixed. On mobile, open your profile and look for Following in your About information. The list shows people and Pages you follow, and it's separate from the list of Pages you've liked, where Facebook still keeps one.

Who else can see that list is a privacy setting. Facebook lets you choose who can see the people and Pages you follow from your privacy settings. How to find pages you follow on Facebook when the menu moved

Use search inside your profile, or open any Page and check whether its button says Following. Facebook has renamed and moved these menus several times since the Page redesign, which is why guides disagree. The underlying list, Following, is still attached to your profile.

Does unliking a Facebook Page also unfollow it?

It can, and it's worth checking rather than assuming: if the follow came with the like, removing the like may take the follow with it, so look at the Page's Follow button afterward. The reverse is clear-cut. Unfollowing leaves the like in place, which is exactly how older Pages ended up with more likes than followers.

If you want to keep supporting a Page publicly but stop seeing its posts, unfollow and keep the like. If you want to keep seeing its posts without showing an endorsement, follow without liking. The two controls exist because they answer different questions: whether you vouch for the Page, and whether you want to hear from it.

For Page admins, that split is also why a follower count is the better measure of an audience. Everyone in it chose to receive posts. Nobody in a legacy like count had to make that choice separately, and many of them made the opposite one later.

Do Page likes still exist on Facebook?

As a public display, on some Pages, yes. As a metric, they're on their way out. The new Page layout from 2021 has no Like button, and Meta's November 2025 reporting change replaced Page likes with followers in Page Insights and in the API that third-party tools use. Tools that used to report page likes now report follows.

What each number tells a visitor

A visitor sees whichever number the Page shows prominently. On a modern Page, that's followers. On a Page that still displays likes, they see likes, and they read either one the same way: as a rough measure of how established the Page is. Neither tells them how many people actually see the Page's posts.
