How to Delete a Quora Account

Deletion removes you from your answers. It does not remove your answers from Quora.

Updated October 2026

To delete a Quora account you have to use the website. Click your profile picture, open Settings, choose Privacy, and scroll to Delete Account at the bottom. Confirm with your password.

The mobile apps do not carry the option. If you only have the app, open quora.com in a browser and sign in there.

What happens next is the part worth reading before you click. Your profile, your followers and your credentials disappear. Your answers do not. They remain published on Quora, detached from your name and attributed to an anonymous user.

If you want the content gone, you have to delete the content first, while the account still exists.

The part most guides skip

The reasoning behind this is visible in how Quora works, and it is not arbitrary.

Quora's value is a library of answers attached to questions. A question with eleven answers is an asset; the same question with four answers because three former users left is a worse page, and the people harmed are the readers who never knew the answers existed.

So the platform treats the answer as belonging to the question rather than to the author. You wrote it, and once published it became part of a public page that other people linked to, quoted and relied on.

Whether that is reasonable depends entirely on why you are leaving. If you are leaving because you no longer want to participate, anonymized answers are fine and arguably better than deleting useful information. If you are leaving because something you wrote is tied to your name in search results, anonymization does the job — your name is what gets removed.

But if you are leaving because you want a specific thing you wrote to stop existing, account deletion is the wrong tool and doing it first removes your ability to use the right one. Delete the answers individually, confirm they are gone, and only then delete the account.

The path, on the web and nowhere else

Sign in at quora.com. Click your profile picture in the top right and choose Settings.

In the left menu, open Privacy. The deletion control is at the very bottom of that page, below the data download and the various visibility toggles.

Quora will ask for your password and will ask you to confirm in a second dialog. Accounts created through Google or Facebook sign-in may need a password set first, which is done from the same Settings area.

The iOS and Android apps have no equivalent screen. This is deliberate on Quora's part and it is the reason most searches for this exist at all — people look in the app, find nothing, and conclude there is no way out.

Removing your answers before you remove yourself

Your answers are listed on your profile under Answers, and each one has a three-dot menu containing Delete.

There is no bulk delete. If you have written a lot, this is genuinely tedious, and there is no official tool that shortens it.

Deleting an answer removes it from the question page. Quora keeps it recoverable from your profile's deleted items for a period, which means an answer you delete today is not immediately unrecoverable — useful if you change your mind, relevant if you are deleting for privacy reasons.

Questions you asked behave differently. A question belongs to the site once others have answered it, and deleting your account does not remove it. You can usually edit a question's wording but not withdraw the page.

Deactivating rather than deleting

Quora offers deactivation in the same Privacy section, and it is the better choice for most people who arrive looking for deletion.

Deactivating hides your profile, stops all email, and removes your name from your answers — but it is reversible. Sign in again and everything returns, including the follower count you spent years building.

Deletion is not reversible. The username is released and the profile cannot be restored.

If the actual goal is to stop the email, deactivation is overkill and the next section is the one you want.

Stopping the email without leaving

A large share of people who look up account deletion are really trying to stop the digest.

Email controls are in Settings under Notifications, where each category can be switched off independently: the digest, answer requests, upvote notifications, comments, and the various re-engagement messages.

The switch worth finding is the one for the main digest, which is the daily or weekly email of questions Quora thinks you will answer. It is on by default and it is the one people describe as relentless.

Every Quora email also carries an unsubscribe link at the foot, and using it on one category does not affect the others — which is why unsubscribing repeatedly feels like it is not working. Each type has its own setting.

Getting your data out first

The same Privacy page offers a data download, and it is worth requesting before you delete anything.

The archive contains your answers, questions, comments and profile information as files you keep. Preparing it takes a while and Quora emails a link when it is ready, so start it days before you plan to leave rather than minutes before.

This matters more than it sounds for anyone who wrote substantial answers. People regularly rebuild blog posts, documentation and even book chapters out of what they had written on Quora over the years, and once the account is gone the only copy is whatever the public page still shows.

And a public page attributed to Anonymous is a poor archive. It is hard to find and impossible to prove you wrote.

What happens to your spaces and your credentials

If you ran a Space, deleting your account does not delete the Space when other contributors remain. Ownership needs transferring first, which is done from the Space's own settings.

Your credentials — the short descriptions attached to answers in particular topics — go with the profile. The answers that carried them remain, with the credential stripped alongside the name, which removes most of what made them persuasive.

Followers are not notified. There is no announcement; profiles simply stop resolving, and people who had followed you will find a dead link if they go looking.

That silence is worth planning around if the account had any professional weight. A final answer or a note in your bio pointing at wherever you went next costs nothing and survives in a way the account does not.

Questions people ask about leaving Quora

Does deleting my Quora account delete my answers?

No. Answers stay published and are reattributed to an anonymous user. To remove the content itself, delete each answer individually before deleting the account.

Can I delete my Quora account from the app?

No. The option exists only on the website, under Settings, then Privacy. Open quora.com in a browser and sign in there.

Is deleting a Quora account reversible?

No. Deactivation is reversible and hides everything in the same way; deletion releases the username and cannot be undone.

How do I stop Quora emails without deleting my account?

Settings, then Notifications. Each email type has its own switch, which is why unsubscribing from one does not stop the others.

Can I download my Quora content before leaving?

Yes, from the same Privacy page. The archive takes time to prepare and arrives by email, so request it days in advance.

What happens to questions I asked?

They stay. Once a question has answers it belongs to the site, and deleting your account does not remove the page.
