How to Get Verified on TikTok

TikTok's badge can't be bought and isn't triggered by a follower count. It's a free request, decided mostly on whether the outside world already knows who you are.

Updated October 2026

How to get verified on TikTok: open Settings and privacy, go to Account, tap Verification, check which requirements the account already meets, and submit the request. It's free. TikTok reviews whether the account is authentic, notable and active, and as of October 2026 it has no paid way to get the badge.

There's no follower minimum. TikTok's guidance says the badge isn't awarded for a follower count, and accounts with millions of followers are routinely unverified. The deciding factor for most applicants is notability, shown by coverage in independent news sources.

The part most guides skip

The verified badge on TikTok is a blue check next to an account's name, meaning TikTok has confirmed the account belongs to the person, brand or organization it claims to represent. It exists to stop impersonation of accounts people are likely to look for.

That purpose explains why the follower count doesn't decide it. On TikTok, follower counts can climb from nothing to hundreds of thousands in weeks off a single video. A count that volatile says little about whether someone is a public figure who needs protecting from impersonators. Coverage in news outlets, on the other hand, means people outside TikTok know the name and might go looking for it.

So TikTok asks the question the badge is meant to answer, is this a known person or brand that people could be fooled about, and answers it with evidence from outside the app. That's the fact to plan around. A large audience is valuable for many reasons, and TikTok followers are one way accounts work on it, but neither an earned nor a bought count gets a badge on its own.

How many followers do you need to get verified on TikTok?

None. TikTok doesn't publish a follower minimum for verification, and its guidance makes the opposite point: the badge isn't a reward for popularity.

The numbers that circulate, such as 10,000 or 100,000 followers, are guesses based on which accounts happen to be verified. They mix up cause and effect. A musician or athlete with national press usually has a big following too, and it's the press that gets them verified.

The practical consequence: an account with a modest following and real media coverage has a better chance than a viral account nobody outside TikTok has written about.

Can you apply for verification on TikTok?

Yes, from inside the app. In current versions:

1. Open your profile and tap the menu in the top corner.

2. Tap Settings and privacy, then Account.

3. Tap Verification. If you don't see it, update the app; the option has been rolled out gradually and the menu has moved over time.

4. Review the checklist. TikTok shows which requirements the account already meets, such as a complete profile and account security settings, and which it doesn't.

5. Fill in the request, including the category that describes you and links that show you're notable, such as news articles about you or your brand.

6. Submit, then wait for a notification with the decision.

You only ever apply through TikTok itself. TikTok's support pages warn that anyone claiming to sell verification isn't affiliated with TikTok.

What does TikTok look at when you request verification?

TikTok describes verification as weighing several factors rather than a single threshold. The ones it names consistently:

  • Authentic: the account represents a real person, registered business or entity. Fan pages and parody accounts don't qualify.
  • Unique: one account per person or business, apart from accounts for different languages or regions.
  • Notable: the person or brand is recognized outside TikTok, typically shown by coverage in several independent news sources. Paid or promotional articles don't help.
  • Active: the account is in use, not dormant.
  • Complete and secure: a public account with a bio, a profile photo and posted videos, with security settings such as two-step verification turned on. The in-app checklist shows what's still missing.

Why was my TikTok verification denied?

TikTok's decision notice tells you the request wasn't approved, without much detail. In practice, denials come down to a few causes:

  • Not enough independent coverage. This is the most common one, because most accounts are well known on TikTok and nowhere else.
  • Links that don't prove notability: your own website, social profiles, press releases or sponsored posts.
  • An incomplete or private profile, or missing security settings that the checklist flags.
  • A history of violations. An account with strikes is a weak candidate for a badge meant to signal trust; how to appeal on TikTok covers contesting a violation you think was wrong.

When can you reapply?

After a waiting period that TikTok shows in the app, commonly reported as 30 days. Reapplying with the same evidence usually gets the same answer, so use the time to earn the coverage that was missing.

Can you pay for verification on TikTok?

No. As of October 2026, TikTok has no paid verification subscription. The badge is free and is granted only through TikTok's own review.

That sets TikTok apart from Meta, which sells a verified badge through Meta Verified on Instagram and Facebook, and from X, which ties its check to a subscription. How to get verified on Instagram explains how the paid route there works.

It also means any offer of a TikTok badge for money is a scam. Services that promise verification either take the money and do nothing, or ask for your login, which hands them the account. Nobody outside TikTok can grant the badge.

Can you lose the verified badge on TikTok?

Yes. TikTok can remove a badge from an account that breaks its Community Guidelines, that misleads people about who runs it, or that stops meeting the criteria it was granted on.

A badge doesn't protect an account from enforcement. Verified accounts get strikes, restrictions and bans under the same rules as everyone else.

What does the badge change, and what doesn't it?

It changes how people read the account. Visitors can tell the real profile from copies, which matters most for brands and public figures who get impersonated in comments and messages.

It doesn't change distribution. TikTok doesn't say verified accounts get more reach, and the For You feed judges each video on how viewers respond to it. How to go viral on TikTok covers the eligibility rules and signals that decide that, and they apply the same way with or without a check mark.

It doesn't change earnings either. The Creator Rewards Program has its own gates, set out in how many followers you need to get paid on TikTok, and the badge isn't one of them.

Where followers fit

The follower count is the first thing a visitor reads on a profile, and it shapes whether brands, collaborators and new viewers take an account seriously. That's the job TikTok followers do: the count moves, with no password asked and payment in crypto or PayPal.

It isn't a path to verification, and no follower package can promise one. If the badge is the goal, the work is outside TikTok: interviews, features and coverage by publications that don't take payment for it. If the goal is the profile people see while that happens, TikTok likes and the rest of the catalog are on the TikTok page.
