How to Make a Playlist on TikTok
A playlist turns one video that worked into a series people can keep watching. The catch is that not every account gets the button.
How to make a playlist on TikTok: go to your profile, tap the option to create a playlist (or open TikTok Studio and choose Playlist), give it a name of up to 25 characters, and select the videos to include. You can also add a video to a playlist from the publish screen, under More options, before posting.
The tool isn't open to everyone. TikTok's Creator Academy describes playlists as available to creators with more than 10,000 followers and an account in good standing, which is why many people search for the button and never find it.
A TikTok playlist is a named, ordered collection of your own videos that appears on your profile and is linked from each video it contains, so a viewer can move from one part of a series to the next without searching for it.
That link is the point. Most people meet your videos one at a time, in the For You feed, with no idea that there is a part one or a part three. A playlist puts a label on the video that leads into the series. Someone who liked the video they landed on now has a direct path to the rest, instead of having to visit your profile and scroll.
The eligibility rule is the other half of the story. TikTok's Creator Academy, its official education site for creators, describes the playlist tool as limited to creators with more than 10,000 followers. TikTok has not published a separate rule for business accounts, and the button simply does not appear on accounts that don't qualify, with no message explaining why.
So the practical question is twofold. Below the threshold, the work is getting there, which is a follower question and the reason people look at TikTok followers. Above it, the work is building series worth binge-watching, because a playlist multiplies whatever each video already earns. A video that brings in TikTok views on its own can pass part of that audience to the next episode, but a playlist cannot create interest that the first video didn't.
How do you create a playlist on TikTok?
If your account has the feature, the steps below follow the flow described in TikTok's Creator Academy as of October 2026:
- Open TikTok and go to your profile.
- Tap the option to create a playlist on your profile, or open TikTok Studio from your profile menu and choose Playlist.
- Name the playlist. The name can be up to 25 characters, so make it the name of the series rather than a description.
- Select the videos you want in it, from the videos already on your profile.
- Save. The playlist appears on your profile, and the videos in it carry a link to the playlist.
Naming a playlist so it gets clicked
The name is shown on the video as a label, so it is read by people who have never heard of you. A name that says what the series is, such as a recipe series, a part-by-part story or a weekly format, works better than a clever one. Creator Academy's own advice is to group videos that share a theme and use that theme as the name.
How do you add a video to a playlist on TikTok?
There are three ways, and the one you use depends on whether the video is already posted:
- Before posting: on the publish screen, tap More options, then Add to playlist, and choose an existing playlist or create a new one.
- From your profile: open the playlist, tap the three-dot menu, choose Edit playlist, and add videos from your profile.
- From TikTok Studio: open Playlist under the tools and manage playlists and their videos from there.
Limits worth knowing
According to Creator Academy, each video can belong to only one playlist, a playlist has no stated maximum number of videos, and you can add up to 100 videos at a time. TikTok does not publish a cap on how many playlists one profile can have. Only your own videos can go in: a playlist is not a way to collect other creators' videos, which is what Favorites is for.
Why can't I make a playlist on TikTok?
Go through these in order. The first one explains most cases:
- Your account is below the follower requirement. Creator Academy describes playlists as available to creators with more than 10,000 followers.
- Your account isn't in good standing. Recent Community Guidelines violations can remove access to creator tools.
- Your app is out of date. Update TikTok and check your profile and TikTok Studio again.
- The feature hasn't reached your account or region yet. TikTok rolls tools out gradually, and some accounts that meet the requirement see the option later than others.
- You are looking in the wrong place. The option lives on your profile and in TikTok Studio, not in the video editor until you reach the publish screen.
Can business accounts make playlists?
TikTok has not published a separate rule for business accounts. The documented requirement is about followers and account standing, so a business account that meets it should see the same option. If it doesn't, the checklist above applies the same way.
How many followers do you need for playlists on TikTok?
The figure TikTok's Creator Academy gives is more than 10,000 followers. It is not a number TikTok repeats in many places, and as of October 2026 there is no official sign that it has been lowered for smaller accounts, which is why videos claiming a trick for unlocking playlists early keep circulating. None of them change the requirement, and anything that asks for your login to unlock a feature is a risk to the account.
The threshold is high compared to other gates on TikTok. Going LIVE requires 1,000 followers, a requirement covered in how many followers you need to go live. Playlists sit ten times higher, which places them among the tools for creators who already publish regularly.
It also means the playlist is rarely the first growth problem. A creator with a few thousand followers gets more from making each video stand on its own, and from understanding how TikTok decides who sees it, which is covered in how the TikTok algorithm works.
Do TikTok playlists get more views?
Not by themselves. TikTok has never said that adding a video to a playlist changes how the For You feed distributes it. What a playlist changes is what happens after someone has watched.
Without a playlist, a viewer who enjoyed part two has to tap your name, open your profile, and find part one in a grid sorted by date. Most won't. With a playlist, the label on the video does that work in one tap. So the effect shows up as more views per person who found you, not as more people finding you.
That makes playlists most valuable for content that is already serial: tutorials with steps, stories told in parts, recurring formats with a name. A playlist of unrelated videos gives the viewer no reason to keep going, and the label becomes noise.
The first video of a series carries the most weight, because it is the door. Its watch time and its visible count decide whether the rest of the playlist gets visitors at all, which is why creators focus on the opener when they put views on a TikTok or test hooks.
How to edit or delete a TikTok playlist
Playlist management happens in the same two places as creation, on your profile and in TikTok Studio.
To remove a video, open the playlist, tap the three-dot menu, choose Edit playlist and remove it. The video stays on your profile; it just stops being part of the series. Because a video can only belong to one playlist, removing it is also how you move it to another.
To delete a playlist, use the same menu. Deleting a playlist does not delete the videos in it.
Keep series current. A playlist whose last episode is a year old tells new viewers the series is finished, which can be fine for a complete story and bad for a format you still publish. For everything on the network in one place, the TikTok page lists every service, and if you want to keep your own likes and favorites private while you build a public series, who can see your likes on TikTok covers that setting.
