How to Pin a Video on TikTok
Three slots at the top of your profile, seen before anything else by every visitor. Most accounts leave them to chance.
How to pin a video on TikTok: open the video from your own profile, tap the three-dot menu (or the share arrow on some versions), and tap Pin. The video moves to the top of your profile grid with a Pinned label. You can pin up to three videos, and only videos you posted.
TikTok's help center doesn't document pinning, but as of October 2026 the app enforces the three-video limit: with three already pinned, you have to unpin one before another can take its place. To unpin, open the pinned video and use the same menu.
A pinned video on TikTok is one of up to three videos the creator fixes to the top of their profile grid, above the newest posts, where it stays regardless of when it was published.
The reason the three slots matter is the route people take to your profile. Almost nobody arrives at a TikTok profile by searching for it. They arrive from a video in the For You feed that made them curious, tap your name, and make a decision in a few seconds: follow, watch one more, or leave. In that moment, the first row of the grid is your whole argument, and the pinned videos are the only part of it you choose. Without pins, the first row is simply your three most recent uploads, whatever they happen to be.
That makes pins a conversion tool more than a reach tool. TikTok has never said a pinned video gets extra distribution in the For You feed. What a pin changes is what the people who already found you see next. A video that shows what the account is about, has its best hook and has a visible count that matches its quality does more for a profile visitor than yesterday's experiment.
The visible number on a pinned video is read by every new visitor, which is why creators often pin a video whose count already does the persuading. When the best video is a recent one that hasn't had time to build, TikTok views are one way people bring its count in line before pinning it.
How do you pin a video on TikTok, step by step?
The steps are the same on iPhone and Android in the current app. Menu icons have moved between versions, so look for Pin in whichever menu opens from the video:
- Open TikTok and go to your profile.
- Tap the video you want to pin. It has to be one you posted.
- Tap the three-dot menu on the right side of the video, or the share arrow if that is where your version keeps the options.
- Tap Pin. The video moves to the top of your grid with a Pinned label.
- Repeat for up to two more videos.
In what order do pinned videos appear?
Pinned videos sit in the first positions of the grid, ahead of everything else, and creators report that the most recently pinned one appears first. If the order matters, pin the video you want in the first slot last.
How many videos can you pin on TikTok?
Three. With three already pinned, the app won't let you pin a fourth until you unpin one; creators who try see a message saying only three videos can be pinned.
Three is a small number on purpose. It forces a choice, and the choice is the value. A profile with three pins that each show a different side of the account, such as your best-performing video, your clearest explanation of what you do, and your newest series, tells a visitor more than any bio.
The limit applies to the profile, not to a period of time. You can rotate pins as often as you like, and many creators change one slot whenever a new video becomes their strongest.
Do pinned TikToks get more views?
From profile visitors, yes, because they are the first thing those visitors see. From the For You feed, there is no sign of it: TikTok hasn't said pinning changes distribution, and the For You feed doesn't know or care where a video sits on your grid.
So the views a pin adds come in proportion to your profile traffic. An account that gets many profile visits, because its videos make people curious about who made them, gets a lot from good pins. An account whose videos are watched and scrolled past gets little, because few people ever see the grid.
You can see how many people visit your profile in TikTok's analytics, where profile views are reported over time. That number is the audience your pins are speaking to. Whether visitors can see that you viewed their profile is a separate setting, covered in how profile view history works on TikTok.
Why can't I pin a video on TikTok?
Go through these in order:
- It isn't your video. You can only pin your own posts; there is no option to pin someone else's video to your profile.
- You already have three pinned. Unpin one first.
- It is a repost. Reposts live in the Reposts tab, not in your own grid, so they aren't eligible for the Pin option.
- You are on a computer. The app on your phone is the reliable place to pin; the web version doesn't consistently offer the option.
- Your app is out of date. Update it and look again in the video's menu.
Can you pin a photo post?
TikTok's help center doesn't say. Photo posts sit in the same grid as videos, and if Pin appears in a photo post's menu, it works the same way. If it doesn't appear, the app version on that account doesn't support it yet.
How do you unpin a TikTok?
Open the pinned video from your profile, open the same menu you used to pin it, and tap Unpin. The video returns to its normal position in the grid, by date, with its views, likes and comments unchanged.
Unpinning is also how you replace a pin. There is no swap function, so to change which three videos are pinned, unpin the one you want to drop and pin the new one.
Nothing is notified when you pin or unpin. Followers don't get an alert, and the video isn't pushed to anyone again; the only thing that changes is the order of your grid.
What should you pin on your TikTok profile?
Think of the three slots as answers to the three questions a new visitor has. What is this account? Is it good? Is there more?
- An introduction: the video that explains most clearly what you post and why someone would follow. It doesn't have to be your most viewed.
- Proof: the video with the strongest response, because a visitor reads its view count and comments as evidence. A number that doesn't match the video undersells it.
- A door: the first part of a series or your newest format, so a visitor who likes what they saw has something to start on.
Pinned video or pinned comment?
They do different jobs. A pinned video shapes the profile; a pinned comment shapes the conversation under one video, and it is set from inside the video's comment section. The comment side, including why the option sometimes disappears, is in how to pin a comment on TikTok. Reposts are covered separately in how to repost on TikTok.
Where pins fit in growing a profile
Pins convert visits; they don't create them. The visits come from videos that reach people, and the follow decision is made on the grid. A visitor is more likely to follow a profile whose first row looks established, which is why the follower count and the views on the pinned videos are read together. When the pinned video's own count lags behind its quality, views on that TikTok are the number people adjust. Every TikTok service is listed on the TikTok page.
