How to Find Everyone Someone Else Follows on Twitter (X)
On X the following list is one of the few things still public by default. Seeing all of it is easy on a small account and slow on a big one, and a protected account keeps it to its followers.
How to find everyone someone else follows on Twitter: open their profile on X and tap Following, under their bio. The list shows every account they follow, as long as their account is public. X shows no date for each follow, and long lists load in batches as you scroll, so reaching the end of a big one takes patience.
That's the whole method for most accounts. The questions start at the edges: why a list seems to stop loading, what you can see when the account is protected, whether the person finds out, and whether the tools that promise more are worth handing your account to. Each has its own section below, with what X's Help Center says as of October 2026.
X keeps two lists on every profile: Following, the accounts this person chose to follow, and Followers, the accounts that follow them. Both counts sit in the profile header, and on a public account both lists open for anyone. X's Help Center describes the following list the simple way: tap or click Following on a profile to see who that account has followed.
That list has become more revealing than it used to be. Since X made likes private in June 2024, a person's likes no longer show what they pay attention to, so the following list is one of the last public signals of who someone reads. It's why journalists, recruiters and brands still check it, and why people curate it.
The two counts also do different jobs for the account itself. Following is what someone chose; followers is what others chose, and it's the number a stranger reads first when deciding whether an account is worth their time. Twitter followers adds to that follower count from a public handle. Nothing changes the following list except the person who owns it.
Can you see who someone follows on X?
Yes, if the account is public, and it takes three taps:
1. Open the person's profile, from a post, a search or their @handle.
2. Under the bio, tap the Following count.
3. Scroll. Each row shows the account's name, handle and bio, with a Follow button if you don't follow them already.
On the web, the same list is at x.com followed by the handle and /following. It's often easier to work through a long list on a computer, where more rows fit on screen and the page tends to keep loading smoothly.
You don't need to follow the person, and you don't need to be followed back. The only requirements are that their account is public and that they haven't blocked you.
Why can't I see someone's full following list?
Usually because it hasn't finished loading, not because anything is hidden. X loads the list in batches as you scroll, and on accounts that follow thousands of people that means a lot of scrolling, with pauses while new rows arrive. Three other causes are worth checking:
- The app stopped loading. Scrolling a very long list for a long time can stall; refreshing, trying later or switching to the web usually gets it moving again.
- Some rows are gone. Suspended, deactivated or deleted accounts drop out of other people's lists, so the list can come up shorter than you expected.
- You're blocked. If the person blocked you, X won't show you their profile or lists at all.
- The account is protected, covered in its own section below.
Is there a limit on how far you can scroll?
X doesn't publish one for viewing lists. Its Help Center says X has follow and update limits for site stability and to control abuse, which apply to actions like following. If a list stops at the same point every time, try again later rather than refreshing repeatedly.
Can you see who a private account follows?
Not unless you're an approved follower. X calls these protected accounts, and its Help Center says protected posts are visible only to the account's followers, who must be approved one by one. A non-follower opening a protected profile sees the name, bio and header counts, and a note that the account is protected, but can't browse what's behind it.
If you know the person, send a follow request; once approved, the profile opens like any public one. There's no legitimate way around it, and the sites that claim one are covered below.
Instagram works the same way for private accounts, and its version of this question has its own complications: how to see who someone recently followed on Instagram.
Does X notify when you look at their following list?
No. X has no feature that tells anyone their profile or lists were viewed, and opening someone's following list leaves no trace they can see. The same is true in reverse: nobody knows when you've looked at yours.
What does notify people is acting on what you find. Following an account sends that account a notification, and so does a reply or a mention. Browsing alone stays private.
Can you sort the following list?
Not inside X, as of October 2026. The app and website show another account's following list in one order, with no sort, filter or date. X doesn't document what that order is.
Many people read the top of the list as the person's most recent follows. Treat that as a hint, not a fact: X doesn't publish follow dates or promise any ordering, and the same caution applies on other networks that removed their follow-activity views.
If you need to go through a large list properly, the web version and a bit of patience beat any shortcut. Use the browser's find-in-page to look for a name once enough of the list has loaded.
Do third-party tools show following lists?
Some do, by reading X's data through its developer API, and the useful ones can export a list, show overlaps between two accounts or flag inactive follows. Two cautions before connecting any of them.
First, they can't show more than X allows. A tool can't open a protected account's lists for you unless your own account is an approved follower.
Second, connecting a tool gives it access to your account. X's Help Center warns that a third-party application you've authorized may be able to see your protected posts, and an app with write access can post or follow on your behalf. Never type your X password into a site that isn't X itself, and review connected apps in your settings now and then, revoking any you no longer use.
Tools that promise to reveal who someone follows privately, or who viewed a profile, are selling something X doesn't record or doesn't expose.
What a following list says about an account
Looked at from the other side, your own following list is part of your profile. Visitors use it to judge what you read and who you're connected to, and a following count far larger than the follower count reads as an account that follows people in the hope of a follow back.
If your list has grown messy, how to remove followers on X covers the follower side, and unfollowing from your own Following list cleans up the other. How to get followers on X explains where followers come from now: replies and the For You feed, not follow-back trades. And if you want the follower count in your header to start from a stronger number, Twitter followers adds to it from your public handle, with no login asked. It doesn't change reach or who sees your posts. Every X service is listed on the X page, and why you can't see your likes on X covers the list that went private.
Questions people ask about following lists on X
How do I see who someone follows on Twitter?
Open their profile and tap Following under the bio. On a public account, the full list of accounts they follow loads as you scroll.
Can someone see that I looked at their following list on X?
No. X doesn't notify anyone when their profile or lists are viewed. Only actions like following, replying or mentioning send a notification.
Does X show when someone followed an account?
No. X shows no dates on follows and doesn't document the order of the list, so you can't confirm when a follow happened.
Why does someone's following count not match what I can scroll?
Long lists load in batches and can stall, and suspended or deactivated accounts drop out of lists. Try the web version and scroll more slowly.
Can I see the following list of an account that blocked me?
No. When an account blocks you, X doesn't show you its profile or its lists.
Is it safe to use apps that analyze X following lists?
Only if you trust them with account access. X warns that authorized apps may see your protected posts. Never enter your X password outside X, and revoke apps you no longer use.
