How to See Views on Twitch
The total under a channel's name was removed in 2022, and it isn't coming back. What replaced it is a set of smaller counts, each measuring something different.
How to see views on Twitch depends on which views you mean, because the channel-wide total no longer exists. Twitch removed the public channel view count in April 2022. Today you see the live viewer count under a stream while it's on, a view count on each past broadcast, highlight and clip, and your own totals in Channel Analytics in the Creator Dashboard.
Those are different measurements. A live viewer is someone watching the broadcast right now. A VOD or clip view is a play of recorded content, counted after the fact. Channel Analytics adds figures such as live views, average viewers and unique viewers for any date range, visible only to you. If an old guide or a third-party site tells you a channel has a certain number of total views, that figure is either frozen at April 2022 or an estimate.
The channel view count used to sit near the top of every channel page, a single large number that looked like the channel's lifetime audience. Twitch announced its removal on its developer forum on April 7, 2022. The number disappeared from channel pages on April 14, and the view_count field in the Get Users API stopped updating on April 15, before being removed from the API entirely later.
Twitch's stated reason is more interesting than the change. It said the channel views figure counted desktop browser page loads only. It didn't include mobile, it didn't include people actually watching video, and so it didn't tell an accurate story of viewership and could be misleading. A channel that people opened often on desktop, even for a second, could show a large total; a channel watched mostly on phones could show a small one.
So the number people remember was never what it looked like. Removing it left Twitch with counts that each measure something specific: concurrent viewers for live, plays for recorded content, and the analytics a streamer sees privately. The public face of recorded content is now the count on each VOD and clip, which is the figure Twitch views are for; the live number is a separate count entirely.
How to look up viewer count on Twitch
For a live stream, the viewer count sits under the player on the channel page and on the stream's card in category directories and search. It shows concurrent viewers: people watching the live video at this moment, signed in or not. It's public, it updates during the stream, and it's the number directories sort by.

How to see views on a Twitch VOD or clip
Open the channel's Videos tab. Each past broadcast, highlight and upload shows its view count on the thumbnail and on the video page. Clips show their own view count too, on the Clips tab and on each clip. These counts are public and belong to the recording, not to the live stream that produced it.
How long do Twitch VODs stay up?
Past broadcasts expire. Twitch's help center on on-demand content says past broadcasts are kept for 7 days for most broadcasters, 14 days for Affiliates, and 60 days for Partners and for Prime and Turbo users. Highlights and uploads don't expire on that schedule, but they share a storage limit of 100 hours per channel. A past broadcast's view count disappears with the broadcast, so if a stream matters, turn it into a highlight.
How to see views on Twitch for your own channel
Use Channel Analytics in the Creator Dashboard. It reports your numbers for any date range you pick and lets you compare periods. The figures that answer most questions are these:
- Live views: how many times people opened your live stream. Someone who leaves and comes back counts again.
- Unique viewers: how many different viewers watched the live stream in the period, each counted once.
- Average viewers and max viewers: the typical and the peak concurrent audience.
- Minutes watched and hours streamed, which put the other figures in context.
- Views on your videos and clips, from the Videos and Clips sections.
Is there a total view count anywhere?
Not a public one. Your analytics can give you totals for a date range, and third-party statistics sites estimate hours watched and average viewers by sampling public live counts. None of those is the old channel view number, and none should be compared with it.
How to see Twitch viewer list
There isn't a list of everyone watching. The closest thing is the chat's user list, which you open from the users or community button in chat. It shows accounts connected to chat, which includes some signed-in people who watch without typing. It doesn't include logged-out viewers, and it won't match the live count.

Why a VOD view isn't a live viewer
A live viewer is present during the broadcast. They can chat, take part in raids, see alerts, and they count toward the concurrent figure that decides where your stream sits in a directory. A VOD view is a play of the recording afterward. It doesn't change the live count, it doesn't affect directory position during a stream, and it isn't used in Twitch's Affiliate requirements, which measure average concurrent viewers across broadcasts.
That difference explains why a channel can have popular clips and a small live audience, or a busy live stream whose VODs are barely watched. They're separate audiences for separate content. Planning for each one means different work: live audience comes from the directory, raids and a schedule, while VOD and clip views come from people finding recordings through search, shares and your channel page.
How to get more views on Twitch
For recorded content, the tools are the ones that make recordings findable and worth opening:
- Turn your best broadcasts into highlights before the past broadcast expires, and give them clear titles.
- Encourage clipping in chat. Clips are short, shareable and get their own view counts.
- Share clips and highlights where your audience already is, outside Twitch. Most VOD and clip views come from links.
- Keep your Videos tab tidy, so a newcomer who arrives on your channel page sees your strongest recordings first.
