How to Delete Clips on Twitch

Two parties can delete the same clip, which is useful to know before an argument about one.

Updated October 2026

In the creator dashboard, open content and then clips. Select the clips you want and delete them. This covers every clip made on your channel, whoever created it.

If you made a clip on someone else's channel, it appears under your own clips and you can delete it there.

Deletion is immediate and permanent, and it breaks every embed and link to that clip.

The part most guides skip

Shared control is the unusual part of Twitch clips, and it has consequences in both directions.

A clip lives on the channel it was taken from and is attributed to the viewer who created it. Both sides can delete it: the streamer, through the dashboard, and the creator, from their own clips list.

For streamers, that means a clip of a moment you regret can be removed, including clips made by other people, and that is the right tool for anything taken out of context.

It also means removal is not containment. A clip that circulated has been downloaded, reuploaded and screenshotted by then, and deleting the original only removes the copy you control. The link stops working; the video does not stop existing.

For clip creators, the mirror applies: a clip you made can vanish because the streamer removed it, with no notice and no appeal.

The third party in the arrangement is everybody who embedded the clip. Deletion breaks those embeds instantly, which is why a deleted clip is usually noticed by a confused reader rather than announced.

Deleting from your own channel

Creator dashboard, content, clips. The list covers clips made by anyone on your channel.

Filters by date range and by creator make it possible to find a specific one in a long list.

Select and delete. There is no recycle bin and no undo.

For a bulk clean-up, the date filter is the practical tool; there is no automated deletion by age.

Deleting a clip you made elsewhere

Your own clips are listed in your dashboard under clips, with the channel each came from.

You can delete any clip you created, on any channel.

You cannot edit a clip after publishing. Trimming happens in the editor before it exists.

If a clip you made was removed by the channel, it simply disappears from your list.

What deletion does not do

It does not remove downloaded copies, reuploads on other platforms, or anything already embedded as a file rather than as a link.

It does not delete the source broadcast, which may still be available and clippable.

It does not notify anybody, including the clip's creator.

And it does not remove the clip from search engine caches immediately, though the page itself stops working.

Stopping clips before they exist

Clipping can be disabled for a channel in the creator settings, which removes the control for viewers.

It is a blunt instrument: clips are also how most channels are discovered.

A middle path is to leave clipping on and moderate afterwards, which is what the dashboard list is for.

For specific segments, some streamers disable clipping temporarily, which is a manual action rather than a schedule.

Clips of a deleted account

If the channel is deleted, its clips go with it.

If the clip's creator deletes their account, the clip usually remains on the channel with the attribution changed.

Expiry does not apply to clips the way it applies to past broadcasts, so a clip persists until somebody removes it.

That permanence is the practical reason to treat a clip as published rather than as a casual capture.

Questions people ask about deleting clips

Can a streamer delete a clip someone else made?

Yes. Channel owners and their moderators can delete any clip taken from their channel, whoever created it.

Can I delete a clip I made on another channel?

Yes, from your own clips list in the dashboard. Creators keep control of their own clips.

Does deleting a clip remove copies elsewhere?

No. It breaks the link and the embeds, but downloads and reuploads on other platforms are outside Twitch's reach.

Is there any way to undo a deletion?

No. Clip deletion is immediate and permanent, with no recycle bin.

Can I stop people clipping my stream?

Yes, by disabling clips in the creator settings. It also removes one of the main ways channels are discovered.

Do clips expire like VODs?

No. Clips persist until someone deletes them, which is why they outlast the broadcasts they came from.
